About Us
HOW WE MET
We met the old-fashioned way, on a browser-based dating website, long before location-based, GPS-enabled dating apps even existed!
Our first date involved each of us going to a different restaurant on opposite sides of D.C., before realizing we were both waiting for each other at the bar, but at different restaurants.
After a year of other assorted mishaps, things went much better.
HOW WE got engaged
Nicole took Sean to one of her favorite resorts, The Lodge at Woodloch in Pennsylvania, where she had gone with her mom several times. After attending a morning workshop in shinrin-yoku, also known as forest bathing, Sean suggested we take a hike, and then suggested we sit on a stump in the woods. Sean hadn't planned what to say, but knew he wanted to propose marriage out on a walk, in the woods, and to surprise her. Nicole assumed we were stopping to meditate and practice our new forest bathing skills. After patiently observing her breath and the mosquitos buzzing in her ears, and taking a round of selfies, Nicole noticed Sean kneeling and talking about love and commitment and thought, "What, is he proposing? He probably doesn't even have a ring." But he did, and she was impressed and surprised, because she always, always guesses and ruins surprises. More selfies ensued. Eventually a "yes" was said. And then we went to a seminar on bee-keeping.
Nicole and Sean apologize for the use of both first-person and third-person narrative point of view on this web page. We find it annoyingly difficult to write these things!
